Robert Shulman is a Partner in the Insurance Recovery and Global Litigation practice groups and is listed in Chambers USA and Who’s Who Legal as one of America's Leading Business Lawyers in Insurance Recovery. Mr. Shulman has extensive experience in litigating on behalf of corporations and in complex disputes with insurance companies regarding coverage for environmental claims, products claims, pesticide-related agricultural claims, asbestos and other large-scale tort claims, construction claims, directors and officers claims, securities-related claims, hurricane-related claims and claims for business interruption losses.
Mr. Shulman also has extensive experience in class action litigation, including the development and implementation of both certification and the merits. Mr. Shulman's experience in these matters, as well as arbitration, spans state and federal courts throughout the United States and adjudicative bodies in the United Kingdom. Mr. Shulman also has represented clients in cases designated for multidistrict coordination, and has considerable experience in all forms of alternative dispute resolution in the context of a wide range of matters.

Representative Highlights
- International Paper Building Products Class Action. Represented International Paper in mediation resulting in the settlement of three nationwide class actions.
- International Paper Co. v. Affiliated FM Ins. Co., et al. Represented International Paper against 22 of its insurance carriers. That case sought insurance coverage for underlying claims in a nationwide products liability class action. The first phase of the case resulted in a $93.2 million jury verdict in International Paper's favor. The trial of the second phase returned a $383.3 million verdict in International Paper's favor.
- Clark v. United States. Represent a putative nationwide class of National Guard members seeking compensation for mandatory correspondence coursework. Obtained a ruling from US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit resolving a question of first impression in the plaintiffs’ favor regarding whether there is a statutory right to such compensation. The process of seeking class certification will soon commence in the trial court.
