Environmental, Product & Tort Product Liability

Howrey serves as national and international counsel to major corporations in significant product, environmental, toxic tort and health and safety litigation, including mass torts and class actions. Our lawyers defend today’s most complex cases, which often supplement traditional tort theories with claims such as fraud, conspiracy, unfair business practices or environmental violations. Because tort exposure is not limited by geographic boundaries, we also help clients worldwide understand and address litigation risk on a global basis. We work to minimize domestic tort litigation exposure that might result from their international activities.

Our broad experience includes the defense of challenging cases involving MTBE, emissions-based health effects, liquid hazardous waste fuels, tank farm explosions, benzene, benlate, coke and coal dust, dietary supplements, pharmaceuticals, defective siding and alleged product design and assembly defects.

We work as National Counsel to Fortune 500 companies in areas including asbestos, MTBE and diesel emissions. In this role we design and implement nationwide trial and litigation strategies. From discovery to expert strategy to the development of consistent and cutting edge legal theories, we streamline and coordinate national litigation dockets. Our use of cutting edge case management technologies, including extranet and docket management tools, lets us act as a seamless national law firm with a real-time connection to our clients.

Howrey has also represented/counseled clients on Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) matters, with a particular focus on CPSC and related state agency attempts to exercise jurisdiction over industrial products. Howrey has represented/counseled clients on CPSC matters involving, among other things, lap top batteries (Sanyo Energy Corporation); ladders and related climbing products and accessories (Werner Company); power tools (Atlas-Copco) and recreational sporting equipment (Huffy).
