Joanne Lichtman is a partner in Howrey's Global Litigation practice group. She is also a member of the Firm's Partnership Committee. Ms. Lichtman represents clients in federal and state litigation throughout the US. Her experience includes a broad array of substantive areas of commercial litigation, with particular expertise in complex tort, product liability, unfair competition, unfair business practices and a wide range of environmental matters (property and groundwater contamination, personal injury, Proposition 65, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and Superfund).

In 2006, Ms. Lichtman was named one of California's "Top 75 Women Litigators" by the Los Angeles/San Francisco Daily Journal. She has repeatedly been distinguished as one of Southern California's "Super Lawyers" in the area of Civil Litigation Defense. This annual list of top lawyers in Southern California is published in Law & Politics magazine and Los Angeles magazine. In 2008 Ms. Lichtman was named to the Corporate Counsel Edition of Super Lawyers.

Representative Highlights

  • National Product Liability Litigation Counsel. Represents a major consumer product manufacturing company in all product liability litigation nationwide.
  • Bradfield, et al. v. China Shipping, et al. Recently won complete dismissal for the client on all claims in a diesel exposure case. The case involved critical issues of first impression relating to warnings for diesel emissions pursuant to Proposition 65 and California's unfair competition law.
  • Foster Poultry Farms v. City of Livingston. Represents the western United States' largest poultry processing manufacturer in federal and state court, as well as counseling matters. Most recently, obtained a preliminary injunction against the City of Livingston when it threatened to shut down the company's primary facility for alleged regulatory violations.
