Cecil Key is a Partner in Howrey's Intellectual Property practice, and focuses his practice on patent, trademark, false advertising and copyright litigation. Mr. Key's litigation practice includes representation of plaintiffs and defendants before numerous federal district courts, and various federal appellate courts, including the Courts of Appeal for the First, Fourth and Federal Circuits, and the US Supreme Court.
Mr. Key has represented clients in matters involving semiconductor, broadband and networking, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device and wind turbine technologies, as well as industrial designs. Mr. Key has also been recognized as a leading IP litigator by The Legal 500 US for his expertise and experience in the area of trademark law.
His client counseling experience includes a full range of intellectual property-related issues, including transaction-related evaluation of intellectual property portfolios, undisclosed principal purchase of intellectual property assets, clearance of marks, domain name dispute resolution, evaluation of website content and negotiating and crafting of intellectual property agreements and licenses.

- Lucent Technologies, Inc. v. Gateway, Inc. et al. Represented defendant Gateway in patent infringement litigation involving assertion of multiple patents concerning various technologies, including video compression, audio compression and computer touch screen interface technologies.
