Robert F. Ruyak, Chairman and CEO of Howrey, said, “When we contemplated combining our two firms, we realized how well we complemented each other and that, working together in a single firm, we would create what might very well be the most powerful, experienced and comprehensive patent litigation practice available anywhere – for the benefit of all of our clients. They are a strong, talented, and impressive team and we are very excited to be joining forces with them.”
Echoing Bob Ruyak’s sentiments, Rusty Day said, “We believe the combined firm will bring an unsurpassed level of expertise and service to our clients. Our skills, experience and vision mesh perfectly. Howrey’s strategic litigation focus and global reach complement our long-standing commitment to outstanding trial advocacy, and create exciting new opportunities for innovation and growth. According to the 2009 Chambers USA, Day Casebeer is an “innovative and creative IP group (which) ‘leaves no stone unturned’ and is an excellent choice for high-stakes patent litigation. The firm's lawyers focus exclusively on trial work, litigation and strategy, with particular expertise in the biotech, life sciences, medical devices and IT sectors. Patent litigation is the main focus, but the group also undertakes copyright, trademark and other IP-related disputes.”

That same 2009 Chambers USA noted that Howrey is an “excellent firm [that] is highly visible in the Northern California IP market and is viewed as ‘good competition’ by opponents. Focusing on patent litigation, the team has been particularly active in matters for the hi-tech and computer industries.”
