Pro Bono Advocacy AwardIn 2006, the US District Court for the District of Columbia presented the first annual Daniel M. Gribbon Pro Bono Advocacy award to Jennifer Bagosy (Irvine) and Robert Cox (DC) for their work representing plaintiffs suing the Washington Hospital Center for failure to accommodate their disabilities. The lawsuit resulted in a huge settlement that should benefit all persons with disabilities who use the hospital.
Disability Rights AwardThe Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs recognized Howrey’s DC office in 2006 with a Disability Rights award at the Wiley A. Branton Luncheon for its commitment to work on cases in the disability rights area, including the Washington Hospital Center case.
Volunteers of the YearThe Employment Justice Center, a non-profit in DC that provides legal services to achieve justice for low-wage workers, recognized Sora Kim in 2006 as one of their two Volunteers of the Year. Ms. Kim, a paralegal in our DC office, is an intake volunteer who distinguished herself by her attendance, her consistency and the quality of her services.
Pro Bono Publico Award Howrey partner Elizabeth McCallum was selected as one of five attorneys across the United States to receive the ABA’s Pro Bono Publico award in 2005. This prestigious award is well-deserved recognition for Beth, who has worked tirelessly on behalf of the firm’s pro bono clients.
Mid-Size Pro Bono Firm of the Year AwardThe Houston Bar Foundation presented our Houston office with the Mid-Size Pro Bono Firm of the Year award in 2005, in recognition of our pro bono commitment to the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program (HVLP), including our role in assisting HVLP’s legal support for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Law Firm Pro Bono AwardIn 2005, Public Counsel selected Howrey’s LA office as the recipient of the prestigious Law Firm Pro Bono award, acknowledging a law firm’s “extraordinary contributions of time, expertise and resources on behalf of indigent, vulnerable and victimized segments of our community.”
Community Commitment RecognitionWhitman-Walker Clinic Legal Services recognized our DC office in 2005 for the firm’s outstanding contributions to its program and to the rights and well-being of persons living with HIV/AIDS.
