Working Together to Build a Strong Team
Diversity Recruitment EffortsHowrey devotes considerable time and resources to our diversity recruitment efforts. We focus our efforts on seeking out and retaining qualified, talented individuals from all backgrounds and ensuring they have the opportunities to succeed in all aspects and at all levels of the firm. We hold receptions to introduce diverse law school candidates to the firm and to encourage them to apply to Howrey’s summer program. We reach out to law schools and student diversity associations within those schools as another method to ensure Howrey has tapped the largest possible pool of candidates. We also participate in regional diversity job fairs as another outreach tool to attract law students.
A Supportive Environment Through Mentoring We recognize that mentoring opportunities for minority and women attorneys help to develop and strengthen support networks. Through one-on-one meetings, lunches and informal mentoring sessions, Howrey minority partners reach out to minority associates to ensure that they are getting needed support and guidance, and to assist with retention. In addition, Howrey also provides mentoring opportunities for diverse attorneys by holding Diversity Committee receptions and lunches where attorneys can network and form relationships. Howrey’s long-standing Women’s Leadership Initiative also holds monthly lunches to address professional and career development issues facing Howrey’s women attorneys.
Commitment to Work / Life BalanceIn the US, Howrey provides comprehensive benefits and offers work / life balance policies that support all attorneys. Howrey offers attorneys a minimum of 16 weeks of paid maternity leave, ten weeks of paid paternity leave and ten weeks of paid leave for adoptive parents. We also offer partially subsidized back-up day care to all of our employees.
In addition, the firm offers health care benefits for domestic partners and has a long-standing, formal policy under which attorneys can work part-time and stay on a partnership track.
