Counsel
John Bevan has well over 25 years of experience in the construction industry. During the past 13+ years as an attorney he has represented building owners (public & private), developers, EPC contractors, general contractors, subcontractors and design professionals, providing them with litigation and dispute resolution services, contract drafting and negotiation services, as well as counseling and advice.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Bevan was a licensed architect, practicing for more than 13 years with top-flight design firms in Seattle, Washington and the San Francisco Bay Area. As an architect, he accumulated a wealth of construction-related experience that continues to provide an exceptional foundation for his work as a construction attorney.
His architectural experience extends to essentially all phases of architecture (client relations, contract negotiation and formation, master planning, schematic design through completion of construction documents, bidding, construction administration and coordination with building departments, OSHPD and other governmental agencies) and includes numerous project types, such as hospitals, medical office buildings, single- and multi-family residential projects, universities, middle schools, libraries, criminal justice facilities, hotels, parking structures, historic renovations, commercial and office buildings.
As an attorney, Mr. Bevan has litigated numerous construction-related cases in state and federal courts and successfully resolved a wide variety of complex matters through mediation, arbitration and negotiation. Many of his representative matters have involved extensive dealings with insurers and sureties.
Mr. Bevan's in-depth, practical experience from litigation and architecture lends critical expertise to the transactional side of his legal practice, which entails contract counseling, contract negotiation and contract drafting. His transactional experience includes work on design-build, GMP, conventional design-bid-build, architectural, engineering, lean project, EPC and numerous other types of design and construction contracts and project delivery systems.
Mr. Bevan was a Judicial Intern, Idaho Supreme Court (1992).
