Joseph Walker is a Partner in the Washington DC office of Howrey, where he is a member of the firm's Securities Litigation, Government Enforcement and White Collar Defense practice group. His private practice experience has been focused on federal and state criminal and civil matters in the areas of healthcare fraud, asset forfeitures, qui tams, employment discrimination claims, contract disputes, internal investigations, insider trading, shareholder derivative suits, stock manipulation, securities class actions, bribery, FCPA, and tax fraud.
From 1998 to 2002, Mr. Walker served as a trial attorney for the US Department of Justice, Criminal Division, Fraud Section, where he was the lead prosecutor on several FCPA investigations and prosecutions in a range of industries, including oil and gas and accounting services. Drawing upon that experience, Mr. Walker defends corporate and individual clients both domestic and foreign, during government probes and at trial, against allegations of FCPA violations. He also conducts internal investigations and due diligence and provides clients with advice regarding the drafting, implementation and review of FCPA compliance programs.
During his tenure as a federal prosecutor, Mr. Walker developed significant expertise in complex matters involving bribery, bank fraud, money laundering, wire and securities fraud and violations of the Travel Act and Internal Revenue Code.
