Patricia Butler specializes in complex commercial litigation, domestic and international arbitrations and counseling of corporate clients in areas including business and commercial disputes, antitrust, government regulation and corporate practices. Her litigation experience covers factual investigation, discovery, motions practice, trial and appeal. She also has extensive experience in domestic and international arbitrations in a wide range of substantive areas and under various arbitration rules and procedures.
Her substantive areas of expertise include contractual disputes, antitrust, securities fraud, directors and officers liability, accounting malpractice, white collar crime, government regulation, financial/investment business disputes, insurance recovery, employment discrimination, product liability, intellectual property (patent/trademark) and business counseling with respect to government investigations, regulatory approval processes, transactional issues, mergers and joint ventures.
Ms. Butler is the Firm Diversity Partner, Chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee, and is a member of the Recruiting Committee, Evaluation Committee and Attorney Development Committee.
Representative Highlights
- Antitrust Class Action. Represented ChevronTexaco in antitrust class action challenging joint venture formation. Won dismissal of all claims on motion for summary judgment.
- Antitrust Counseling. Counseled Texaco on antitrust issues in pre-merger and pre-joint venture business integration and regulatory compliance activities. Joint venture and merger received regulatory approval and private challenge to joint venture was ultimately defeated.
- Accounting Malpractice Investigation. Represented FDIC in investigation of accounting malpractice claims involving auditing practices.
